Chat masala is a blend of spicy and tangy spices.In Hindi 'chat' means to lick and 'masala'means spices.It is a combination of spices used as a flavour enhancer in soups,salads,pakodas,chaats,raita,buttermilk.etc., which makes the dish lip smacking and appetizing.Ingredients like jeera,carom seeds ease digestion..In fact every ingredient used in this masala is health friendly.So,why not make it at home which ensures quality at its best and lasts for months if stored properly.
Ingredients:(yields-3/4 cup)
Cumin seeds (jeera)3/4tbsp
Dry ginger(soanth) powder 1tbsp
Carom/thymol seeds(ajwain)2tsp
Dry mango powder(amchur)2tsp
Black salt powder2tsp
Salt 1/2tsp
Black pepper(ground)1tsp
Nutmeg powder 1/2tsp
Cloves 2-3
Asafoetida(hing) a pinch
Method:
Dry roast cumin ,cloves and carom seeds on a low flame lightly for a few seconds.
In a absolutely clean and dry blending jar take the dry roasted ingredients along with the rest of ingredients mentioned above.
Blend to form a fine powder
Store this in a clean/dry jar.
Stays fresh for months if stored in a dry place.
How to use:
Sprinkle on raitas,pakodas,curd(yogurt),buttermilk,fruit salads,vegetable salads,etc.,
